Jose E. Gouveia

Jose E. Gouveia, age 78, a respected and beloved member of the New Bedford community, peacefully passed away at his home on Sunday, May 3, 2026. He was surrounded by his loving family during his final moments—a reflection of the deep bonds and unwavering love he cultivated throughout his distinguished life.

Born on September 9, 1947, in Rabo de Peixe, Sao Miguel, Azores, Jose was the cherished son of the late Artur Gouveia and Eliza (Tavares) Gouveia. His roots in the Azores formed a life marked by dedication, humility, and steadfast commitment to those he held dear.

Jose was the devoted husband of Maria E. (Medeiros) Gouveia, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Their partnership was a pillar of strength and enduring love that sustained them through decades of life’s joys and challenges.

Professionally, Jose contributed his skills as a machine operator for a local handbag manufacturer, where his hard work and reliability earned him the respect of colleagues and the community alike. His steady presence and quiet diligence were hallmarks of his character. Jose’s life was a testament to dedication to family and community. He will be remembered with profound respect and affection by all who were privileged to know him.

Jose is survived by his cherished wife, Maria E. Gouveia; his children, Rui Gouveia and his wife Analia, and Patricia Von-Randow and her husband Dirceu; his beloved grandchild, Dyllan Gouveia; his brother, Artur Gouveia; and two nieces. Through these family ties, his legacy of love, integrity, and devotion will continue to flourish.

At the request of the family, funeral services will be held privately.
