Jose M. Gouveia

New Bedford – Jose M. Gouveia, age 64, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Maria T. (Botelho) Gouveia. 

Born in Praia da Vitória, Terceira, Azores, Portugal and he was the beloved son of the late Manuel Gouveia Bonito and Beatrice (Adolfina) Gouveia. He had worked as a carpenter for many years.

Jose loved watching sports, especially his favorite teams, Benfica, the New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins. He loved being at his home with his wife and taking care of the yard. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren every single day and looked forward to spending time with his daughters. He enjoyed going to the sports club, hanging with his friends and was always the life of the party, no matter who he was with or where he was at. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Teresa Gouveia; daughter, Melanie (Gouveia) Howell and her husband Cameron Howell and daughter, Victoria Gouveia and her finance Matt Kirby and two grandchildren, Lana and Jensen Howell. He leaves a brother in Terceira, Antonio Gouveia and his wife Manuela Gouveia. He also leaves his sisters-in-law, Carmen Azevedo and Connie Soares and her husband Jose Soares; his brothers-in law, Leonel Botelho and Michael Bolton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jose’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Visiting hours will be held at Perry Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
