Jose Miguel, age 89, of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the beloved husband of Maria Jose (Pavao) Miguel.
Born on May 22, 1936, in Joao Bom, Bretanha, Sao Miguel, Acores, he was the cherished son of the late Jose Miguel Senra and Maria (Alexandrina) Miguel. Jose dedicated many years to his craft as a self-employed carpenter. Through his profession, he demonstrated his commitment and unique skills until he embraced retirement. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time on the farm, where he passionately cared for the animals and continued to teach his grandchildren lessons of hard work, dedication, and love.
Jose is survived by his wife, Maria Jose Miguel; his children, Delta Martins and her husband, Manuel Martins; Jose “Joe” Miguel and his wife, Ana Miguel; and Mariana Pimentel, who was predeceased by her husband, Floriano Pimentel. He also leaves behind a loving legacy in his grandchildren: Kristal Gouveia, Courtney Mapp, Jackie Miguel, Jessy Pimentel, Brittney Miguel, Mackenzie Martins, Kyle Pimentel, and Brandon Miguel. His heart was further warmed by his great-grandchildren, Logan Gouveia, Averie Pimentel, Addison Pimentel, Lincoln Gouveia, Lucas Pimentel, Hazel Allain and Nico Mapp.
In addition to his immediate family, Jose is survived by his sister, Alzira Viveiros, of Mosteiros, Sao Miguel, Acores. He was predeceased by his siblings, Manuel Senra, Miguel Senra, Maria Tavares, Gilda Arruda, and Julieta Reis.
Jose will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, with his legacy living on through the many lives he touched.
Jose’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Visiting hours will take place from 8:00 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow at Rural Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, MA.
