Jose Semedo, age 84, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the beloved husband of Joana (Gomes) Semedo.
Born on July 18, 1941, in Brava, Cape Verde, he was the cherished son of the late Manuel Semedo and Benvinda (Pina) DePina. Jose dedicated many years of his life to working for a local cable manufacturer, where he was known for his hard work and commitment.
Jose is survived by his devoted wife, Joana (Gomes) Semedo, and he leaves behind a loving legacy through his children: Benvinda Semedo, John Semedo, Ana Gaspa, Carlos DePina, Silvia Ribeiro, Elisa Fontes, Armando Gomes, and Maria Semedo. He was also a proud grandfather to 25 grandchildren and had several great-grandchildren, who will remember him fondly.
In addition to his immediate family, Jose is survived by his brother, Antonio DePina, and his sister, Nana Duarte. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished their time with him.
Jose will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to his family, and the joyful moments he shared with all who knew him.
Jose’s life will be honored during visiting hours at Perry Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. His funeral service will take place on Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 10:00 A.M., with burial immediately after at St. John’s Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth St, New Bedford, MA, which provides a lighted parking lot and a handicap-accessible ramp and entrance for all who wish to pay their respects.
