Jose Soler Quijano, age 84, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was the beloved husband of Providencia Cortes Gonzalez, who now carries his memory forward.
Born on March 26, 1942, in Camuy, Puerto Rico, Jose was the devoted son of the late Conrado Soler and Maria Quijano. Throughout his life, Jose demonstrated a strong work ethic and commitment to his vocation, spending many years as a public transportation driver.
Jose’s presence in the lives of those who knew him was deeply cherished, especially by his wife, family and friends. His legacy is one of steadfast love, dedication, and the quiet strength he displayed every day. Jose will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life, rich in devotion to family and work, leaves an enduring mark on the community he called home.
Jose was the devoted father of seven children, whom he shared with his beloved late wife, Maria Margarita Cubero. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Margarita Soler Cubero.
He is survived by his children: Griselle Soler Cubero and her husband, Pablo Velázquez; Moraima Soler Cubero and her husband, Carlos Romero; Hermelinda Soler Cubero and her fiancé, Oswaldo Preza; Jose J. Soler Cubero; Alexander Soler Cubero; and Lizbelinette Soler Cubero and her husband, Juan Escalante.
Jose was the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren and lovingly raised Alexis Soler Martinez as his own. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren. Later in life, Jose married Providencia Cortes Gonzalez, with whom he shared his final years. Through this union, he was blessed with an extended family, Carmen M. Benejan and her husband, Hector Benejan; Luz N. Cortes; German Cortes and his fiancée, Christina Andrades; Providencia Rivera and her husband, Danny Rivera; and Amanda Cortes and her fiancé, Okee Rodriguez. Along with many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were touched by his love, guidance, and kindness.
Jose's visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026. Visiting hours will take place from 10:00AM - 12:00PM with a service to begin at 12:00PM. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
