Joseph E. Harrison, Jr., age 82, passed away on October 11, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the cherished husband of the late Patricia Ann (Miranda) Harrison, whose memory will always remain an integral part of his legacy.
Born on December 9, 1942, in New Bedford, MA, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph E. Harrison, Sr. and Mildred (Brown) Harrison. He carried the values instilled by his parents throughout his life and faced each day with commendable work ethic and dedication. Joseph notably worked as a machine operator for Continental Screw Company, contributing his skills and effort to the firm for many years.
In addition to his hard work, Joseph enjoyed an engaging life filled with passions and hobbies. He was an avid bowler, often found at the Palladium, where he forged friendships and memories over games. His love for excitement also drew him to the casino, where he delighted in the thrill of gaming during his free time.
Joseph leaves behind a legacy of love through his family. He is survived by his children, Glen Harrison and his late wife Joan Harrison, Robin Vieira and her husband Anthony Vieira, and Christopher Harrison and his wife Amber Harrison. His bond with his foster daughter, Marie Rodrigues, was also a source of pride and joy. As a devoted grandfather, Joseph took great pleasure in the company of his grandchildren: Sarah Vieira, Andrew Vieira, Debby Vieira, Jet Harrison, Brittney Walters, Gennie Rose, Glenn Harrison II, Brandon Harrison, Tyrell Harrison, Jordan Harrison, and Travis Harrison, as well as his 15 great-grandchildren, who brought him immense happiness.
His family ties extended beyond his children and grandchildren; he is survived by his goddaughter and niece, Cheryl Machado, his godson, Jose Rodrigues, and nephew, Randy Carter. Joseph also shared a close relationship with his sibling, Patricia Harrison, and his sister-in-law, Helen Carter.
He was predeceased by his brother, Wayne Harrison, whose absence leaves a space in the hearts of those who remember him.
Joseph will be remembered not only for his contributions to his work and community but for the love he shared with everyone around him. His life was a testament to the importance of family, friendship, and cherishing every moment.
A burial of Joseph's cremains will take place at a later date, with details to be provided to family and friends in due course.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth St, New Bedford, MA, which offers a lighted parking lot and is equipped with a handicap-accessible ramp and entrance for all who wish to pay their respects.
