Julieta (Tavares) Pereira

Julieta (Tavares) Pereira, age 85, of Dartmouth, MA passed away on September 17, 2026 at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife of the late Hermano Pereira. Together they shared 58 years of marriage.

Julieta was born on March 23, 1941, in Agua de Pau, Sao Miguel, Azores and was the beloved daughter of the late Antonio Tavares and Lourdes (Carreiro) Tavares. She had been a seamstress for both Cliftex Corporation and Justin Clothing for many years.

She had a passion for cooking and loved showcasing her talents in the kitchen. Julieta loved spending time with her family, especially time with her grandchildren, in which she cherished every moment.

Julieta is survived by her two children, Lucy Distefano of Dartmouth and Elizabeth Gendron and her husband Robert of Westport; her grandchildren, Tyler Distefano, Connor Gendron and Ella Gendron. She is also survived by her brother, Antonio Tavares of Canada; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Jose Tavares and Lucilia Sousa.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful and attentive Nurse’s and CNA’s at Alden Court who took such wonderful care of Julieta throughout her stay. Julieta enjoyed participating in all the activities at Alden Court. The family would also like to thank Southcoast Hospice for their compassionate care and support during her final days.

Julieta’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening, September 23, 2026 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Her funeral will take place Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 AM and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church of Dartmouth at 10:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts, which offers convenient facilities, including a lighted parking lot and wheelchair accessibility for attendees.
