East Freetown

Julio M. DeMelo, a beloved resident of East Freetown, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was 76 years old. Julio was the cherished husband of Maria Margarida (Margaret) (Medeiros) DeMelo. Together, they shared 53 years of marriage.

Born on February 23, 1950, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Julio was the devoted son of the late Aries DeMelo and Adelaide (Vasconcelos) DeMelo. He emigrated to the United States, where he established a life rooted in hard work and dedication, serving as a skilled mechanic for Duggan Buick Pontiac for many years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Margarida (Margaret) DeMelo; his two sons, Michael DeMelo and his wife Caitlin, and Paul DeMelo and his wife Diana; as well as his two grandchildren, Ava May and Roan. Julio also leaves behind his siblings Aries DeMelo, Filomena Bettencourt, and Victor DeMelo.

Julio will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to family, his dedicated work ethic, and the warmth he shared with those close to him. He enjoyed being outdoors, working in his yard and in the garage on numerous projects. He was known to be able to fix anything. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially if it involved a seafood dinner and for dessert, his pipe. His legacy will live on through the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings who survive him.

The family will honor Julio’s memory during visiting hours on Tuesday evening, June 16, 2026, at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning, beginning at 8:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. John Neumann Church. Burial will follow immediately at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
