Leno Donald "Don" Garcia, age 88, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the Catholic Memorial Home, surrounded by the love of his family. Leno, known to all as Donald, was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Souza Garcia. Their 53 year marriage was laden with unwavering love, support, and companionship.
Born on April 16, 1937, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Leno was the beloved son of the late John M. Garcia Jr. and Irene (Souza) Garcia.
At 17 years of age, Donald made the decision to join the Navy. He was stationed on the ship, The Kennedy, on which Donald spent three years travelling the world. Later in life, Donald would regale his grandchildren with stories about his travels, and his position as a cook, on that very ship, which he loved to gaze at while visiting Battle Ship Cove, in Fall River, MA.
Donald's career path led him to many professions. He loved the open road and was happiest when behind the wheel. Donald worked at the Delken Company, where he was employed as a Quality Control Manager for over twenty years. After retirement, he decided to take on a part-time job with Whaling City Transit, finally retiring from there at the age of 79. His hard work and dedication set an example for his children and grandchildren, which will be carried on throughout their lives.
Donald's warm smile and friendly demeanor were irresistible. He struck up a conversation with everyone and strangers soon became fast friends. He was happiest when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. His family meant the world to him, as he did to them. Donald was never without a kind word and a compliment. His quick wit and sense of humor were loved by all. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them
Leno leaves behind a legacy of love through his three children, Kim Robillard and her husband David, Heidi Mello and her husband Richard, and Wendy Pavao and her husband David. He was a proud grandfather to Carolyn, David, Anthony, and Christin, and he treasured his role as a great-grandfather to Sienna. Also survived by his siblings, Shirley Fernandes, Nancy Pavia (deceased), Gail Duarte (deceased), Sandra Tavares married to Manuel Tavares, Richard Garcia married to Beverly Garcia and Bruce Garcia; as well as several nieces and nephews.
