Leonilde T. Figueiredo

DARTMOUTH--Leonilde T. (Teodoro) Figueiredo, 79, of Dartmouth, formerly of New Bedford, died peacefully Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the home of her daughter, Lucia following a prolonged illness.  She was the widow of José S. Figueiredo, beloved husband of 57 years, and the daughter of the late Carlota Martins Amaral and Antonio Teodoro.  Born in São Miguel, Açores, she grew up and married in Vila do Porto, Santa Maria, Açores, before immigrating to New Bedford in 1974.

Mrs. Figueiredo was employed as an assembler at Carol Cable Company then at Atkore/AFC Cable Systems till 2019.  She was a caring and supportive daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother who loved working, cooking, and managing their home and cottage garden on Bonney Street for over 40 years. She enjoyed going to the beach, sitting in the sun observing Nature, and walking the CoveWalk or the paths at Fort Taber Park when possible. Most of all she loved being with all her family, hosting holiday gatherings and sharing her wonderful meals.

Mrs. Figueiredo enjoyed living in America and was proud of her American citizenship. A parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, she was devoted to Our Lady of Fatima.

Her family includes 2 daughters, Lucia Lopes and her husband Joe of North Dartmouth, and Elisabeth Kastin and her husband Darrell of New Bedford; 2 sons, Mario Figueiredo and his wife Ursula of Connecticut and Joe C. Figueiredo and his wife Delia of South Dartmouth; three grandchildren, one great-grandson, three step-grandchildren and several nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Zélia Maria Rodrigues of New Bedford and her brother José Álvaro Teodoro of Santa Maria, Açores.  

The family is grateful to Bristol Hospice and Attentive Home Care for their help and support in Leonilde's final months.

Her funeral was held Friday, October 6, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial followed in Saint Mary Cemetery, 1213 Kempton St. New Bedford.  For online tributes please visit: www.perryfuneral.com
