Manuel "Frankie" Martins, Jr., affectionately known by many as Frankie, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the age of 59. Born on August 29, 1966, in St. Michael, Azores, he was a long-time resident within the New Bedford community, where he had lived since 1968.
Frankie was the beloved son of the late Manuel and Venilde Martins, and the late brother of Aldino Martins. He was also brother-in-law to Kathleen Martins of Florida.
He is survived by his loving siblings, Manuel A. Martins, Natalie Raposo, Venilde Pacheco and her husband Jose, James Martins, Robert Martins, and Carol Costa and her husband David. His extended family includes numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins who will remember him fondly.
He had also been the dedicated companion of, Izaura “Hazel” Motta. Loved by friends and neighbors alike, Frankie’s warm spirit and readiness to help were hallmarks of his character. His good nature was evident to all who knew him; always a friend to everyone, he consistently put the needs of others before his own.
Frankie cherished a variety of hobbies that reflected his generous heart and dedication to community. He found joy in gardening, landscaping, and power washing. He was especially passionate about contributing to local tradition by helping to set up for the Madeira Feast and during Christmas bringing cheer to the neighborhood of Padanaram by stringing lights and dressing up as an elf.
His life was a testament to kindness and community spirit—a good soul whose presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we remember Manuel "Frankie" Martins, Jr., we celebrate a brother, companion, and friend whose love and generosity will be treasured forever.
We hold Frankie’s memory close in our hearts, forever grateful for the time shared and the love he gave so freely. We love you, brother, forever.
