Maria Ambrosina (Amaral) Augusto, age 74, of New Bedford, MA, passed away peacefully at home after a long courageous battle with cancer on November 19, 2025, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Antonio Victor Augusto, sharing a life together, since their marriage on September 19, 1973.
Born on June 26, 1951, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Maria was the precious daughter of Antonio Amaral and Gloria (Chaves) Amaral. Her early life was marked by a strong work ethic and a passion for her craft as a seamstress. Maria dedicated many years of her life to Langshaw Pajama Manufacturing, where her skills brought comfort to countless individuals through her craftsmanship.
Maria loved showing off her exceptional skills in the kitchen, pouring her heart into each dish she crafted. Her cooking also served as a way to gather loved ones around the table, creating memories that would last a lifetime especially with her grandchildren, whom were her greatest joy. Her laughter could often be heard as she sang and danced joyfully with them, embodying the spirit of a devoted Vovó who made every moment spent with them a treasure.
A woman of simple pleasures, Maria had a particular fondness for visiting Market Basket, a place she often referred to as her "favorite store." She would gladly express how stepping inside made her feel "alive and young again," a sentiment that resonated with those who shared in her enthusiasm for life’s small joys.
Maria leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her husband, Antonio V. Augusto; her son, Michael Medeiros Augusto; and her beloved grandchildren, StanLee Augusto and Luna Augusto. The bond they shared will continue to echo in their hearts, reminding them of the warmth and kindness that Maria brought into their lives.
Maria will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her love, warmth, and the lessons she imparted to her family.
A celebration of Maria’s life will take place on Monday, December 1, 2025. Visitors are welcome from 8:00 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, followed by a heartfelt Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M.
