Maria Saude Bettencourt

Maria Saude (daCosta) Bettencourt, age 82, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at home. She was surrounded by the love and care of her family during her final moments. Maria was the cherished wife of Alfredo Bettencourt, a devoted partner whose companionship and support were a significant part of her life.

Born on October 23, 1943, in Pico, Azores, Maria was the beloved daughter of the late Edmundo Augusto and Maria de Saude Medeiros. Throughout her life, she carried with her the rich heritage of her Azorean roots. Maria dedicated many years working as a stitcher for Sherry Girl Clothing as well as a Home Health Aide.

Maria will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering devotion to family, and the quiet strength she exhibited throughout her life. Her legacy lives on through the family she nurtured and the community she touched.

Maria's family was central to her life. She is lovingly survived by her husband, Alfredo Bettencourt, her treasured daughter, Alfredinha “Alfie” Oliver and her husband Daniel Fernandes, the joy she found in her grandchildren, Kelly, Shawn and Timothy Oliver, as well as her great-grandchildren, Tyrah, Brendan, Kason and Aubrianna Oliver, Elias Mota and Cannon Oliver, and 1 great-great granddaughter, Layleah Lomba. She was the mother-in-law to the late Steven Oliver.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visiting hours on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Perry Funeral Home from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow in St John Cemetery.

Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, MA, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

The facility is thoughtfully equipped with a lighted parking lot and a handicap-accessible ramp and entrance to ensure the comfort and convenience of all attendees wishing to honor Maria’s memory.
