Maria G. (Araujo) Catana

Maria G. (Araujo) Catana, age 65, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife of the late Jose Catana.

Born on March 4, 1961, in Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel, Azores, Maria was the beloved daughter of the late Fernando J. Araujo and Teresa Pacheco (dos Santos) Araujo. Maria had been a loving caretaker to her family throughout the years.

Maria is survived by her sisters, Fernanda Zangao, Maria Fatima Ferran, Ana Isabell Ferreira, Maria C. Coucelos, Linda M. Araujo; her children, Michael Ferreira, John Manuel Ferreira Jr, Kevin Catana; her grandchildren Terrell John Ferreira, Jaydah Grace Ferreira, Jazmin Lynn Ferreira, Michael Ferreira Jr.; as well as her great-grandchildren, Terrell John Ferreira Jr, Saint Jagger, Jeffery Ferreira. Joined by her late husband Jose Tavares Catana and her late son Jeffery Ferreira.

Maria’s Mass of Catholic Burial will take place on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00AM. All attendees are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
