Maria Christina Almeida, 56, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away on April 29, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was born on September 12, 1969, the daughter of the late Jose M. Vieira and Maria A. Vieira.
She is survived by her siblings: Goretti Medeiros and her husband Antonio, Ana Medeiros and her husband Gilly, John Vieira and his wife Stella, and Susan Soares and her husband Raul. She was predeceased by her brothers Joe Vieira and Nelson Vieira, and her sister Louise Cook. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and was predeceased by her nephew Ryan Medeiros.
Christina is survived by her children, Krystal Rezendes husband Tom Rezendes and grandchildren Connor Rezendes, and Charlotte Rezendes, Kevin Almeida Jr., Taylor Rimer husband Matt Rimer, grandchildren Ezra Rimer, and August Rimer.
Christina worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant before happily becoming a stay-at-home mother, devoting herself fully to raising her children. Known for her feisty and loving personality, she brought warmth, laughter, and joy to everyone around her. A deeply creative soul, she found great happiness in painting—especially ceramics—and expressing herself through art. She had a lifelong love for Jane Austen’s books and film adaptations, and cherished the special times spent watching and reading the Harry Potter series with her children.
She was passionate about the holidays and took great pride in her elaborate Christmas village tradition. An excellent cook, she was beloved for her Portuguese meals, made with secret family recipes that she has now passed down to her daughters.
A graveside service with Maria’s cremains will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 11:30 AM Rural Cemetery.
Perry Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements and warmly welcomes all who wish to pay their respects. The facility is thoughtfully equipped with a lighted parking lot and handicap-accessible ramp and entrance to ensure the comfort and convenience of all attendees.
