Maria Lucinda (Pacheco) Pereira, age 88, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Mario R. Pereira.
Born on November 9, 1937, in Faial, Acores, Portugal, Maria was the cherished daughter of the late Manuel Pacheco and Cristina Viera Pacheco. Throughout her life, Maria was well known for her compassionate spirit and dedication to others, exemplified in her work as a home health aide for Alternative Care, where she touched many lives with her kindness and care.
Maria’s legacy is carried on by her beloved children: Mario M. Pereira and his wife Leslie; Marie “Fatima” Pruett and her husband Arthur; Horacio M. Pereira and his wife Michelle; Manuel Fernando Pereira; and Marie “Suzy” Almeida and her husband Raymond. She also took great joy in the companionship of her cat, Felix. Her family extended further to include 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom brought immense happiness to her later years.
She is also survived by her siblings: Maria Lurdes Goulart, Jose Pacheco, Luis Pacheco, and Antonio Pacheco, along with numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom remember her fondly and cherish her memory.
Maria was predeceased by her late sons Jose and Victor Pereira, as well as her siblings the late Manuel August Pacheco, Norbert Pacheco, and Maria Fernanda De Sousa.
Maria's life was one marked by devotion—to her family, her work, and her faith. Her strength and warmth will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her and her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her. The family would like to thank Community Nurse Hospice, Anodyne Home Care and Coastline Elderly for all the wonderful care they provided mom.
