Maria Nieves

Maria (Rivera) Nieves, age 67, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the North End Rehabilitation & Health Center in Boston, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Juan Diaz.

Born on November 14, 1957, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Maria was the cherished daughter of Emilio Rivera and Herminia (Martinez) Rivera. Throughout her life, she embodied love and devotion to her family, nurturing each member with care and compassion.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Mary Torres and her partner Jonathan, and Noemi Nieves. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, Luis Nieves, Arjenis Torres, Ariana Torres, Anthony Teixera, and Tatyana Teixera, as well as her four great-grandchildren. Maria's legacy continues through these cherished family bonds.

In addition to her immediate family, Maria is survived by her sisters, Maria Marcial and Carmen Nieves, and her brothers, Jose Rivera, Jose A. Rivera, Emilio Rivera, Hector Rivera, and Julio Rivera. She was predeceased by her sister, Maria Rivera.

The family extends their gratitude to those who have provided support during this difficult time. Maria’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life

Maria’s life will be celebrated during visiting hours and funeral services held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Perry Funeral Home. Visiting hours will take place from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., followed by a service at 12:00 P.M. A burial will immediately follow at Rural Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, which offers ample lighted parking and is equipped with a handicap-accessible ramp entrance to facilitate ease for all who wish to pay their respects.
