Maria D. Paiva

Maria D. Paiva, age 76, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2026, at St Lukes Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Carlos G. Paiva with whom together had shared 31 years of marriage.

Born on August 18, 1949, Maria was the beloved daughter of the late Francisco Travassos and Maria (daLuz) Travassos. She was born in Rabo de Peixe, Acores and later moved to this area in 1972, where she worked at Justin Clothing for 28 years. She loved crocheting and making her own clothes, she was also known for her delicious malasadas and sweet bread. Maria would give to anyone in need even if it meant she would go without.

Maria is the beloved mother of 4 daughters, Donaria Terra and husband Luis, Sandy Costeira and husband Lazaro, Jennifer Araujo and husband Carlos and Michelle Pacheco and husband Renato; 7 grandchildren whom she adored, Alexis Terra, Nathan Pacheco, Noah Costeira, Abagail Araujo, Brandon Terra, Ryan Pacheco and Hannah Costeira, 1 great-granddaughter, Milaynah and another on the way.

The family is extremely grateful to the staff at Sacred Heart Nursing Home for their kindness and care during her time at the nursing home.

Funeral arrangements were held in private and were placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
