Maria Ann Tavares

New Bedford – Maria Ana Tavares, age 85, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Jose Luis Tavares.

Maria was born in the Azores to the late Antonio da Rocha and Rosa (da Ponte) da Rocha. She had been a seamstress for local clothing manufacturers over the years.

Maria is survived by her husband Jose Luis Tavares; her daughter and son-in-law, Pauline Shea and John Shea; grandchildren, Patrick Shea, Robert Shea and Maria Collins and her husband Christopher Collins; sister and brother-in-law, Maria de Jesus Benevides and her husband Jose Benevides; her brother and sister-in-law, Manuel Rocha and his wife Rossa Rocha; Maria Ana Silva, Luis Silva, Christopher Rocha, Lisa Rocha, Patrick Rocha, Angel Rocha and extended family, nieces and nephews.
