Maria de Jesus Vieira

Maria de Jesus (Tavares) Vieira, age 68, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Jose Vieira of 47 years.

Born on December 9, 1956, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Maria was the cherished daughter of the late David Tavares and Maria de Lurdes (Rego) Tavares. Maria’s career included dedicated work on the floor at Madeira Twin Fashion, where her commitment and hard work were evident throughout the years.

Maria found great joy in the simplicity of life; she was often found tending to her beautiful garden, where vibrant flowers bloomed under her caring touch. In addition to her love for gardening, she cherished the moments spent traveling and most importantly, the time spent with her family, especially her granddaughters which were her princesses. Maria will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Maria leaves behind her son, David Vieira and his wife Cathy; her daughter, Suzy Vieira and her companion Peter Magalhaes; and her beloved grandchildren, Liliana Vieira and Julie Vieira. She also took great joy from the companionship of her beloved dog, Allie. She is also survived by her sister, Ana Froias and her husband Hermano Froias; nephews, Valter Pereira and Eladio Pereira; as well as her great-niece, Cyannah Pereira.

Maria was predeceased by her brother, the late David Tavares, who will be remembered alongside her in spirit.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Her funeral service will take place on Wednesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M., with burial immediately following at Rural Cemetery.
