Mark David Los

September 23, 1969 — July 3, 2025

Falls Church, Virginia

Mark David Los, 55, of Falls Church, Virginia passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, July 3, 2025 in his older brother, Paul’s, arms in the early morning on the day that he and his brother were returning to Massachusetts to be with their father.

Born on September 23, 1969 in Grants Pass, Oregon, he was the son of Paul Richard Los, Sr., and Debra L. Los (Price) of New Bedford. Paul Sr. died five days after Mark’s passing following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mark is survived by his older brother, Paul Richard Los, Jr., his younger sister, Laurie Los Lee, and her husband, Robert; nephews, Roger Paul DaSilva and his wife, Natali, and Christopher-Paul Richard Charles DaSilva Los, III and his wife, Alyson; nieces, Katrina Lourdes Rivera Los and her husband, Hermis, Mackenzie Jordan Lee and Makayla Hazel Lee, and great-nieces, Elysia Rose Los and Charlotte Elizabeth Los, all of New Bedford. Mark also leaves behind cousins/brothers, Leonard F. Jacintho, Jr., of New Bedford and Robert “Bob” Los of Washington, DC.

Mark is also survived by aunts Carolyn Almeida and her husband, Turbio (aka Tony A), and their children, Brent, Lauren and Allyson; Donna Jacintho and her daughters, Janet Rosenberg, and her husband, David, and their children; Jennifer Driscoll and her daughters; Kathleen Waldron Los and her children, Michael, Thomas and Sara, and their families; Frances Los, and an uncle, Charles A. Price, Jr., and his children, Andrew, Alyssa, Emma and Samuel, and their families, all of New Bedford.

In 1971, Mark moved to the Northern Virginia area with his family, eventually settling in Falls Church. He played football at J.E.B. Stuart High School before graduating in 1988.

Mark had a love for landscaping from a young age which began while assisting his mentor and dear friend, Carl “Opie” Payne. Later in life, Mark went on to open M.L. Landscaping, passionately devoting his time to his customers for more than four decades.

After high school, he moved to Massachusetts and worked for Lesco Distributing Company as a delivery driver on Martha’s Vineyard, a place he knew like the back of his hand.

At the age of 19, Mark returned to the Washington, DC area to attend college. While in college, Mark was given the opportunity to pursue his dream job, kicking off a 36-year career of working at the White House and caring for its grounds. During his career, Mark wore many hats, doing “whatever” needed to be done. Later in his career, Mark was an inspector for the General Services Administration of the entire White House complex. He often provided VIPs with a tour.

Mark was known as the “Mayor of GSA” and had the most “JUICE” of anyone in D.C. — able to acquire sought-after tickets to sporting events, concerts and White House activities as well as last-minute reservations to exclusive restaurants like the Old Ebbitt Grill and any monument or museum in the city.

A former coworker said, “Mark did everything for everyone and he made the impossible possible.”

Mark was actively involved in several organizations such as the American Legion Post 1976 in Annandale, Post 176 in Springfield, Post 130 in Falls Church, Post 177 in Fairfax, Post 162 in Lorton and Post 10 in Manassas and Moose Lodges in Vienna, Centerville, Woodbridge and Warrenton, VA as well as in New Bedford, MA. He held various positions and was on several boards and committees during his lifetime. He will be missed at the Queen of Hearts. Because Mark was Mark, he would get up early and go to the Moose or Legion to set up for an event.

Mark also cared for his community. He dedicated his time to helping provide food and clothing for the homeless.

If someone needed something, Mark would find it for them. Mark helped anyone and he would do what he could for everyone.

Mark was an avid sports fan, attending as many events as he could – from NASCAR races to football, basketball, baseball and hockey games. He especially enjoyed attending Opening Day games for the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles with his father, Paul Sr., and going to Washington Redskins and Washington Wizards games with his sister, Laurie.

Mark also cherished watching his nieces and nephews play sports. He loved taking his nieces, Mackenzie and Makayla, to Caddy Shack and Chuck E. Cheese.

A loving son, Mark would call his mother, Debra, multiple times a day. As an uncle, Mark always answered your call and although he didn’t say it often, you knew he loved you. He was kind and generous to all who knew him; a truly wonderful, selfless person.

If you knew Mark, you were his friend and if you were a friend of Mark, you were his family. Mark would do anything for his family and he would expect his family to do the same. Mark spent his life building long-term friendships.

Some of his special friendships include: Carla Kay Payne (his longest and most dearest friend), Brian “Bird” Fitzpatrick (his brother), “Big” Dave Kisch, Nathaneael Dyjak, Mike Hagan, AF Davis, Dwayne Shaw, Jamila Mims, AD Williams, Omar Vargas, Ellen (Smiley) Ayers, Alycia Hendersen, Paul McComb, Megan Kupferschmidt, Diane Ramsey, Tom, Jack, Ray and Brenden Giroux, Don Canterbury, Rich and Stephanie Chasez, Stephanie Alonzo, Rebecca Elliot, Heather Martin, Brian Pate, Todd Robinson, Chery Reynolds, John Walsh, Kevin Ottman, Carol and Jeter Morris, Tricia Newbold, Dennis and Andrea Hawk, Lei Sky, Bob Wottowaki, Steve Mahaffey (aka Cigar), Billy Jones, Ryan Titcombe, Deb Abel and her husband, John, Sheila and Chuck McMullan, Joe Band and his wife, Joyce and Debbie, Dwayne Shaw, Chris and Seth Momjian, Patrick Briggs and Dori, Usman Bhatti, Vicki Decker, Heather Carlson, Marty Carbone and his wife, Linda, Barbara Bush, Bill Clinton, Bill and Jim Anderson, Phylis Briggs, Chris Cowing, Martin Beher, Michael Maga, Patrick Monga, Bobby (Custom Lawns), Todd Asousa, Mike Emerick, Terrence Turner, Joe Varallo, James McNamara (MAC), Mike Helton (NASCAR), Jessica Esparza, Robert Banks and his wife, Melissa, Bill McGraw, Stiphan Martin Beher, Lawrence Goodwin, Anthony Davis, Joan Higbee (Library of Congress), Calvin Smith, Troy Smith, Jasmyne Robertson, Carlton Bushrood, Kenneth Ray Jenkins, Herb Fitzpatrick, Kellyanne Conway, Dr. Deborah Birx, the late Natalie M, Faris, Peter Lesco, the late Bob Lesco, Joe Rasmussen, Chris and Sabina, Teresa, Guhan, Buggsee, Connie, Rumbula, Peggy, Matt, Sean, Meob, Ponzi, Mo, Cren, and finally, the late Carl “Opie” Payne.

This says a lot about who Mark was; he was always thinking of others, always carrying the “weight” for the people that he “loved.”

Mark also had many friends throughout his years who we may have failed to list; these friends were also family to Mark and came from within the White House Office, the Executive Residence, all of the U.S. Secret Service, the Navy Mess, the Move Shop, the U.S. Park Service, the Office of Administration, the General Services Administration, NASCAR, Moose Lodges, American Legions and from Martha’s Vineyard.

Mark will be deeply missed by his entire family, especially his mother, siblings, nephews and nieces, as well as by everyone who knew him.
