New Bedford – Maureen Barton, 77, of East Freetown passed away on April 29, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital following a long illness. Maureen was the loving wife of David N. Barton, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.
Maureen is survived by her husband, David N. Barton; son, Norman J. Barton, his wife, Claudia Sousa-Barton of Acushnet; son, Peter J. Barton, his wife, Amy McAloon Barton of East Taunton; and daughter, Nicole M. Barton of East Freetown 9 grandchildren, Joshua, Kalin, Chloe, Jillian, Cameron, Isaiah, Giovanni, Emmie, Caleb, and a great granddaughter Ivy.
She is preceded by her father, Joseph Hartley; her mother, Miriam Lewin Hartley; her brothers, John Hartley and Joseph Hartley; and her sister Margaret “Peggy” Rose, and survived by her brother Charles K. Hartley of Acushnet and sisters Miriam Hartley Martin and Melanie Hartley of Georgia, as well many nieces and nephews.
Maureen had a gift to touch many lives and spread her love. She loved her husband and children endlessly, but her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren; being in their presence filled her heart with happiness, especially watching them play baseball, attend school concerts, or dance recitals.
Maureen was a huge fan of her beloved Red Sox, loved her Dunkin Coffee, and watching her soap operas. Made great friends and memories throughout her life. In her youth, she was active in the local Drum Corps scene with the New Bedford Whalers, Assumption & Satellites corps.
Maureen’s visiting hours will take place on Friday evening, May 2, 2025 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday morning at St. John Neumann Church at 11:00 A.M. located at 157 Middleboro Rd, East Freetown, MA 02717. All attendees are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Cremation will follow.
