New Bedford - Michael Robert DeCosta, 55, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Patricia (Aguiar) DeCosta with whom he shared 26 years of marriage. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Barbara Alexander and Michael DeCosta, and the son of Antone Joseph, Jr. He was the grandson of the late David and Virginia Alexander.
He lived in New Bedford all of his life. Michael was a proud graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, class of 1985. He was employed by Tremblay Bus Company and enjoyed serving students, many with special needs, in local school districts for over 23 years greeting them each morning and afternoon making sure they started and ended their day with a smile. Michael loved spending time with his family and friends, through family gatherings, dinners, and listening to live music. If he wasn’t enjoying time with his family, he could be found watching his beloved Boston sports teams. He had a love of writing, cooking, and drawing; all things in which he showed much talent. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family to Portugal and Canada. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, Patricia, whom he loved beyond measure.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, his father, Antone Joseph Jr. of Westport, a sister, Rachel Joseph, of New Bedford, as well as his in-laws, Mario and Maria Aguiar, and brother-in-law, Christopher Aguiar of New Bedford.
