Michelle R. Miguel

New Bedford – Michelle R. Miguel, age 51, of New Bedford, Massachusetts. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Carlos Soares.

Michelle was born on February 24, 1973 in Santa Clara, California to Maria Alvarina Miguel and the late Antero Miguel. She moved to New Bedford at the age of 8. Michelle attended New Bedford High School and University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to pursue a degree in nursing. Upon college graduation, she began her career at St. Luke Hospital where she worked for over 25 years and succeeded to become a Registered Surgical Nurse.

Michelle genuinely loved expanding her knowledge through education, seeking new adventures, event planning, and interior designing. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity and kindness. Without hesitation, she was the first to offer a helping hand and dedicated her life to caring for others without ever asking for anything in return. More than anything was her unconditional love for her family who she adored and loved spending time with.

Michelle is survived by her husband Carlos Soares, son Nathan Soares, daughter Crista Soares and her husband Tyler Bretal-Paiva. She was the grandmother of Sage Paiva who she loved dearly. She also left behind her sister, Cindy Mello, her mother-in-law, Lilia André, and several brothers and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late John Mello and daughter-in-law of the late José André.

Michelle’s visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will take place on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 with a service to begin at 10 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
