Santiago Fernandez Vazquez

Santiago Fernandez Vazquez, age 88, of Dartmouth, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Vidalia Lopez.

Born on July 25, 1936, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Santiago was the cherished son of the late Octavio Fernandez and Maria Vazquez. He had a diverse career, serving as a cement truck driver, as well as owning and operating a store at his home and on the road in Puerto Rico. Santiago found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in spending time with his family and indulging in the thrill of playing the lottery. Santiago will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, and devotion to his family, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.

Santiago leaves behind a legacy of love through his wife, Vidalia Lopez, and his children: Anita Lopez of Puerto Rico; Pablo Zayas and his wife Lissa Zayas of New Bedford; Fernando Fernandez of Florida; Julio Fernandez and his wife Miriam Silva of New Bedford; Felix Fernandez and his wife Rebecca Fernandez of New Bedford; Yelitza Rodriguez and her husband Ismael Rodriguez of New Bedford; Joseline Fernandez of New Bedford; Brenda Fernandez of Puerto Rico; Lourdes Fernandez of Puerto Rico; and Waleska Fernandez of Florida. Additionally, he is survived by over 50 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, who all carry fond memories of their time with him.

Santiago was predeceased by several family members, including the late William Fernandez, Miriam Fernandez, Carmen Fernandez, Ada (Milta) Fernandez, and Ivonne Fernandez.

In honoring his memory, visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday morning at the funeral home, beginning at 10:00 AM, with a service to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
