Sergio M. Cabral, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on February 7, 2026, at his home.
Born on January 14, 1960 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Sergio was the beloved son of Maria Amelia Cabral and the late Raul M. Cabral. Shortly after, the family traveled to the United States where they finally settled in New Bedford, MA. Sergio attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School from kindergarten to 8th grade before moving to Dartmouth, MA and attending Dartmouth High School where he played varsity soccer all four years. He later continued education to prepare him for a lifelong career in plumbing at A&T Plumbing and Heating.
Sergio was an avid fan of Sporting Clube de Portugal, following in his father’s footsteps and was also a devoted fan to all the New England sports teams. He loved spending time with his friends and socializing at the Stackhouse Club in Dartmouth where he was a member. However, he was most happy when he was spending time with his family. Sunday dinners at Vavo’s house, Saturday morning runs to the bakery for coffee and pastries with his son and grandsons, enjoying classic mid western movies with his daughter on Friday nights, and picking up his granddaughter from school so they could spend time together were the things he always looked forward to. And perhaps his most favorite thing was watching his grandkids involved with all of their activities. Whether it was baseball, soccer, and hockey, or dance recitals and taekwondo, he was there cheering them on every single time.
He is survived by his mother, Maria Amelia Cabral; his son, Brandon Cabral and wife Andrea Cabral; his daughter Abby Cabral; his grandchildren Cameron Cabral, Connor Cabral, and Gabriella Gould; his sister, Lilia Andrade and husband Joe Andrade; his Godchildren, Jared Saramago, Amy Saramago, Timothy Desrosiers, and Christina Nicolau; his Aunts Lilia Cabral and Donna Cabral; his Uncle Edward Cabral; and so many more nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sergio will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, with his legacy living on through the many lives he touched.
Sergio’s family and friends will gather to honor his life during visiting hours held on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will take place on Friday morning, beginning at 9:00 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Julie Billiart Church in Dartmouth, MA at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery in New Bedford, MA.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home located at 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, MA, which provides a lighted parking lot and a handicap-accessible ramp and entrance for all who wish to pay their respects.
