Sophia "Sophie" A. Correa

Sophia Agnes (David) Correa, 87, of New Bedford, beloved wife of the late Andrew “Beaver” Correa, passed away surrounded by her family on July 18, 2026, after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Mary David.

“Sophie” was employed at Arista Sportswear, OV Dress, and other garment factories. She later worked as a housekeeper at Kristen Beth Nursing Home, a job she truly enjoyed until her retirement.

Sophie was known for her love of coffee and cigarettes, often with one or the other in hand. She enjoyed trips to the casino and was always willing to care for any family member in need. The greatest joy in her life was caring for and spending time with her grandchild. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was also fondly known at Brandon Woods of New Bedford for walking the halls and giving everyone a thumbs-up when she could no longer speak. The family sends a great big thank you for the excellent care she received for the last 4 years while she was in their care.

Sophie is survived by her son, Steven Correa of Freetown; her daughter, Sharon Couto, and her husband, Steven, of Acushnet; her grandchild, Jack Arruda; her brother, Joseph David of Maine; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings Ruth David, Annie Costa, Theresa Macedo, Elizabeth Grenier, Michael David, Anthony David, Joseph David, and Michael David.

Sophie’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening, July 22, 2026 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. Her funeral will take place on Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:30am and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Purgatory Church at 10:00am. Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
