Viola D. (Lima) Cruz, aged 93, of New Bedford, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife of the late Joseph F. Cruz, and her enduring love for him remained a central part of her life.
Born on June 14, 1932, in New Bedford, MA, Viola was the daughter of the late Joseph Lima and Wilherminia (Costa) Lima. Her early years were enriched by the strong familial bonds and the vibrant community that defined her upbringing. A dedicated educator, Viola served as a teacher in the New Bedford Public School System, where she inspired countless students with her passion for learning and commitment to their future. Her impact on the lives of her students exemplified her unwavering belief in the potential of every young mind. She was also a member of Freetown Ladies Auxillary, Acushnet Seniors Center and Classy Ladies Club.
Viola is survived by her son, Todd Cruz, daughter Julie Cruz, daughter Jenny Cruz, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildrens well as several nieces and nephews, she was the sister of the late Mabel Sylvia, Joseph E. Lima, Arnold E. Lima, Manuel, Seraphin, Antone and Joseph Prenda.
Her family will carry her memory in their hearts. Her legacy is one of love, dedication, and the profound influence she had on those around her.
Viola's visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 24, 2025. Her visiting hours will be held on Wednesday September 24, 2025 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Followed by a mass of Christian Burial at St John Neumann Catholic Church in East Freetown at 11:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in New Bedford, MA.
