Virginia B. (Verissimo) DeMiranda, age 76, of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Dionisio DeMiranda and the former wife of the late Marcilio DeSousa.
Born on October 9, 1949, in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Azores, Virginia was the cherished daughter of the late Antonio Verissimo and Maria R. (Brum) Verissimo. Throughout her life, Virginia carried with her the strength and resilience of her Azorean roots, which were evident in the warmth and generosity she extended to those around her.
Virginia was not only a loving wife and mother but also an enterprising woman. She owned Café Portugal until 1999, contributing significantly to the local community through her business. Following that chapter of her life, she worked at Bristol County Savings until her retirement, exemplifying dedication and commitment in all her endeavors.
Her family was the center of her world, and she took great joy in nurturing those bonds. Virginia is survived by her husband, Dionisio DeMiranda; her daughter, Leslie A. (DeSousa) Crane, and son-in-law Peter M. Crane. She was a proud grandmother to Dr. Logan T. Crane, Dr. Sophie M. (Crane) Burnsed and her husband Dr. Alan Burnsed, Ava E. Crane, and Olivia G. Crane. Virginia’s heart was full of pride and excitement for her soon to be born great-grandchild, baby Lucas.
Also surviving Virginia are her brother, Duarte M. Borges; her sisters, Eduarda Costa, Candy DeMelo, and Ana Poeira; and the memory of her brothers Joseph Verissimo and Antonio A. Verissimo. She was a devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly and with whom she shared countless cherished moments.
Family was everything to Virginia, and she found immense joy and fulfillment in caring for her loved ones, especially during family gatherings, where she always ensured everyone’s well-being and happiness. Her presence illuminated every room, embodying love, kindness, and unwavering support.
Virginia’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her warmth and spirit will live on in the memories and lives of her family and friends. To have known Virginia was truly to love her.
A memorial mass to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
