Wesley A. Barao, age 77, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth, where he had resided after suffering a debilitating stroke in 2014.
Born on December 18, 1948, he was the only son of the late Frank Barao and Marie (Medeiros) Barao. His early years prepared him well for a life dedicated to service and community; he honorably served in the United States Army Reserve, a testament to his character and commitment to his nation. Following his military service, Wesley made significant contributions to the local economy as a cutting room manager at Joseph Abboud Clothing Manufacturing, while he also moonlighted at Guy Cotton for a number of years.
Wesley is pre-deceased by his longtime companion, Dorothy A. Medeiros, whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his granddaughter, Carissa L. Medeiros, her husband Lawrence Kline, and two great-grandchildren, Wesley A. Kline and Lincoln J. Kline, whose presence truly brightened his days. He is also survived by his sisters, Diane Shaw and her husband Sam, and Phyliss Brown, along with several nieces and nephews, who will miss him dearly.Wesley leaves behind a family and community that will forever cherish his memories, his gentle heart and his kindness. His spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Wesley’s legacy of love and kindness will be celebrated during his visiting hours and funeral services on Friday, January 2, 2026. Visiting hours will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., followed by a service commencing at 12:00 P.M. Wesley will then be laid to rest in Rural Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth St, New Bedford, MA.
