New Bedford - William M. Perry, Jr., age 82, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Patricia A. (Baptista) Perry, sharing a bond that reflected love, support, and companionship throughout their years together.
Born on July 10, 1942, in Providence, R.I., William was the cherished son of the late William M. Perry, Sr. and Alice (Mello) Perry. His early years instilled in him values of duty and service, which he carried throughout his life. William proudly served in the United States Navy, a chapter that shaped his character and dedication to his country.
After his military service, William went on to pursue a career with the City of New Bedford, where he distinguished himself as a police officer for over 30 years. His commitment to public safety and community welfare was evident in his work, and he earned the respect and gratitude of those he served.
William’s passions extended beyond his professional life. He found joy in woodworking, a craft that allowed him to express his creativity and skill. He also had an appreciation for music and art. Above all, William cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia A. Perry; his son, William Perry III, and his wife, Susan; his daughter, Gina Emerson; his grandchildren, William Perry IV, Julia Perry, Allie Perry, Wolf Emerson, and Anya Emerson; as well as his niece, Jennifer Jean.William M. Perry, Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, forever remembered by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held for William on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 12:00 P.M. All attendees are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. All other funeral arrangements are private.
